Flex for .NET Developers on Flex.org…Sweet!

On the newly redesigned Flex.org site, there is now a link for “Flex for .NET Developers”. After clicking the link, you’ll quickly see some information on WebOrb & Fluorine and a couple links to some quick little tutorials I had written a while ago to getting up and going with Flex + .NET. I’m happy to see Adobe making an effort with those of us that combine Flex and .NET technologies.

I think it’s important to remember that these technologies can and do play nice and I’m excited to see this sub-group of the community continue to grow! Thanks!

I think the second link on flex.org is wrong.
The remote object article has the following link:

    Hi Sam,

When I saw your blog, I said, this is the guy I am looking for. I’ve been working on a SOA project for two years which I call MS.Services, where developer creates services with point and click which can be outputted as Web Services, JSON, REST, XMLRPC, RSS, Excel and Text.
There is full (AD, Database, or anything) authentication and authorization support also nice logging support (including MSN or SMS Messages :) ). The output can be generated with point and click Stored procedures, native .Net code or messages to MSMQ.
The project is located at http://www.codeplex.com/MSServices

It is a bit hard to install and manage currently, but I would like to talk to you about it.

I believe this project could be perfectly integrated with Flex applications as server-side solution.

    Sam,

I noticed that you have experience with Fluorine. I’m currently using WebOrb but it drives me crazy. Especially the lazy loading of the related tables makes me go crazy. I have addEventListeners all over the place :( Is this not an issue when using Fluorine? Does it work sychronously or is there an event that only fires after all related records have been retrieved?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Hello Sam. Props for posting your questions and your lessons. I have learned alot from following your posts. I have recently moved from WebORB to Fluorine because of the IP limitation. It was hard getting Fluorine up and running compared to WebORB but i’ve got it up and running. I saw your post on Nabble about sending strong typed data tables from to Flex. I am also trying to see what the best approach is. Is it better to send plain VO’s to Flex or the strong typed DataTables? Can the VO’s be mapped to VO’s in Flex? I have yet to learn how to send data back from Flex but I imagine it would be the same process. I have heard a little about NHibernate but i haven’t started looking at it. Any advice you would give would be so appreciated. I hope its ok to ask you this. Please feel free to email me if you want.

    Thanks alot.
    J
